One thing I love about working with amazing small businesses & the passionate owners behind them is that I am able to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how they run their businesses. I am always—ALWAYS—learning something new. This one is something I picked up from Mark Ferguson of @ferguson_builders — he calls it "Wins & Ways to Improve." If you're a @michaelhyatt #fullfocusplanner fan, I think he would call it "After Action Review," but I heard it from #FergusonBuilders first :) The basic idea is that each week you take time to review the ways you succeeded and the ways you could have improved the work that was done. I've started writing down one big win each day so I actually remember the good stuff that happens (sometimes I get lost in the overwhelm of the work to do, and don't remember the work that actually got done—are you with me??) I keep the list in my planner to remind me to write a win each day—reviewing it at the end of the week. I've been consistently doing this in 2019 and it's been super beneficial in remember how I'm tangibly achieving my goals—both personal & business. I'd love to hear from you guys! She provides graphic design services for small business owners and helps them craft and maintain an outstanding brand presence. “I've been designing for 12+ years, but I've been running this business for the past three years. I started out on my own to be able to work fewer hours and stay home with my daughter. It's been a blessing to be able to enjoy time with her and still work in the design industry on my own terms. Having my own business has also created a flexibility for our family that gives the three of us—me, my husband, and my daughter—a healthier life both mentally and physically. We currently are in the process of taking a big step to grow Tarva, which is totally exciting! This year my husband Stephen started working with me in the business as my communications coordinator just a few hours a week, and I'm excited to have him on board and growing his role in the business. We're really enthusiastic about the growth the business is experiencing and can't wait to see where these next steps lead us in 2019. I would encourage woman who want to start their own businesses to no get overwhelmed with all the first things. Do one thing at a time, and just keep taking the next step at your own pace. It can seem like you're not making progress, but you are! It can seem like you're not growing, but you are! It's okay to build slow and sustainably—growth looks different for each and every one of us.
